Description
Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire), probably Kuba or related peoples (Dengese, Shoowa, Tetela), early 20th century CE. A beautiful pedestal bowl, hand-carved from wood with openwork triangular motifs adorning the foot and incised chevron motifs decorating the rim of the bowl. A lovely example that has also developed a lustrous patina over time. Size: 9" in diameter x 2.5" H (22.9 cm x 6.4 cm)

Collection label under foot. Two chips to periphery of dish. Expected light scratches and nicks to basin and pedestal. Otherwise, very nice.
