Description
Machzor according to the custom of the Rome Community, Volume 1 and Volume 2, with Halachic laws and additions by Rabbi Avraham Yedidya Basilea. On Leaf 1, Volume 1, appears handwritten ownership listings: "Bechaluka shenat 5531 alah legoral ani Yisrael bkm"r Shlomo Polaisi". Volume 1 includes: Shabbat, Rosh Chodesh, Chanukah, Purim, Pesach, Pirkei Avot with the Rambam's commentary, Shavuot, 17 Tammuz and Tisha Be'Av. Volume 2 includes: Selichot, Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Fasts and assorted prayers and notes by Rabbi Avraham Yedidya son of R' Menachem Shimshon Basilea. Large format for a cantor.
In a colophon at the end of Volume 2 it states: "And it was completed during the days of Chanukah, Year 5320…we began printing three years ago and it was delayed until now…since…we had to print other books meanwhile [?] other books include Leviyat Chen, Tikkunei HaZohar, Ma'arechet HaElokut, Toldot Yitzchak, Chovot HaLevavot, Mekor Chaim and a large Machzor, and the book of Zohar which is now in its printing…" [this refers to the first edition of the Zohar that was printed at that time in Mantua]. Leaf [2] at the beginning of Volume 1 with 'the proofreader's words', Rabbi Avraham Yedidya Basilea (Halachic laws and his additions were included in the final three leaves of the second volume).
