Description
J.C. Fremont and Charles Preuss "Topographical Map of the Road from Missouri to Oregon in VII Sections" (Washington, by order of the Senate, printed in Baltimore by E. Weber, 1846). Seven maps were produced stitched edge to edge representing a section of the Oregon Trail. Five maps are present, II, III, IV, V, and VI. Each 16" high x 26" wide in 4-1/2" mat and frame. Each with creases from being rolled, areas of chipping, and losses along edges of creases. Overall toning as expected with age. PROVENANCE: From the personal collection of journalist and editor E. Michael Pakenham (1933-2018). Pakenham was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1977 for his editorials in the Philadelphia Inquirer. He began his newspaper career at the Chicago Tribune and went on to work as an editor at the New York Herald, The New York Daily News, the Sunday Correspondent, and Spin Magazine. He retired from the from the position of Book Editor at the Baltimore Sun in 2004. IMPORTANT: Before bidding, please read the terms and conditions.
