Description
Herbert Carroll Cassill (American, 1928-2008). "The Embrace", large plate etching on paper, titled lower left, numbered 2/10 in center lower margin and signed lower right in pencil. From the 1970 faculty exhibition of the Cleveland Art Association. Plate size 32.25 x 25.5 in. Framed in a simple wood frame under mat and glass, overall apprx 41 x 31.
Cassill was head of the printmaking at the Cleveland Institute of Art from 1957 to 1991. Respected and distinguished in his field, Cassill won the Cleveland Arts Prize in 1971. His work may be found in the art museums of Brooklyn, Dayton, Denver, Oakland, San Francisco and Cleveland, and by the Library of Congress. Cassill’s intaglio prints, wood-cuts and lino-cuts have also been shown in Barcelona, London, Belgrade, Salzburg, Hamburg, Munich, Vienna and Athens as part of three important traveling exhibitions, American Printmakers, an International Exhibition of Graphic Arts and the MOMA-sponsored Modern Art in the U.S.A., including the Paris Biennial.
Condition: Not inspected out of mat and frame, paper undulating, some toning to paper visible under mat at edge, debris visible under glass, frame is original with water spots.
