Description
From the Arabian Peninsula, the city of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; a high karat (tests between 18 and 22 karat) gold Jambiya dagger, set with 12 white and 4 red sapphires. Gold most likely 21 karats (most jewelry is manufactured in Saudi Arabia’s port city Jeddah from 21 karat gold) and covers the front of the sheath and the entire handle and is hand chased. The tip of the scabbard on the verso is inscribed illegibly. The scabbard is fitted with fine hand woven chains connected to gold loops. Apprx 10.5" L.
Provenance: Presented to Dr. A. H. Mackenzie from Mohammed Al-Aiban , April 2nd, 1974.
Condition: the back of sheath is covered in red felt. No noted damage, has been stored in its presentation case safe and secure.
