DESCRIPTION: Antique cabinet from the Meiji or Edo period featuring a lower pull out drawer, an upper compartment behind sliding wooden doors, and a central compartment behind hinged doors sealed by a bronze songbird clasp. Piece is decorated throughout with gilt painted motifs of blossoming flowers; birds in flight; and, on the two central compartment doors, a stunning rendition of Mt. Fuji as viewed by a falcon perched in a Japanese pine which grows up from the drawer beneath the central compartment. Piece is finished with bronze trimmings on its corners and chakin-seki ("tea gold stone") accenting throughout.
