(GLOBES.) Nicholas Lane. A New Globe of the Earth [and] [Untitled Celestial Globe]. Pair of 2¾-inch miniature desk globes, each comprised of 12 hand-colored engraved gores on plaster spheres mounted to nineteenth-century calibrated brass meridian rings and carved wooden stands with manuscript horizon bands. 6¾ inches overall height; terrestrial sphere with darkened varnish and scattered areas of small cracks and abrasions, celestial nearly unblemished. London, 1776 [but circa 1779 or after] An attractive pair of late-eighteenth century English pocket globes wonderfully modified into matching carved mahogany desk stands in the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
