In this image, the artist plays with the disruptive effect of uniting the Estelada and a niqab, forcing the viewer to embrace ambiguity as a political question mark. In the words of the artist "At a time when the construction of the Catalan national identity is debated between the split and the configuration of its own state, when the European states as a whole are debating the necessity or convenience of closing the borders in the face of migration from North Africa, when the permanent presence in the media of the atrocities committed by the so-called Islamic State invade our "peaceful" everyday life, to find oneself before this image, that plays with and retains something of all these superimposed worlds, provokes a certain discomfort in us. The ambiguity it suggests refers to social mixing, cultural globalisation and the construction of identity in relation to territory and the articulation of citizenship".
Roser o Ro Caminal is a Catalan visual artist who develops artistic processes in different formats, such as photography, video art and multimedia installations. Her work is based on collective identities and public space, understood as a place of experience and of the future. His production moves between art and social sciences. With an educational background in the field of Fine Arts and Anthropology, she develops her artistic practice exploring the world of re-presentation, hybridising indisciplinarily between both fields. He has been resident in different art centres such as Can Xalant, Sant Andreu Contemporani, Waaw, BLITZ or Townhouse. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions; Post-it City, Ciudades Ocasionales (CCCB), Mulier, Mulieris 7-9 (MUA), Bienal de Valls 2103 (Valls), Extralocales (AVic), Que podemos? Winner of the City of Valls Award 2015, Julio Antonio Accésit 2019 and the Girona Biennial Award 2020. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Valls, the Art Fund of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Civit I A.A.R.C. Collection in Algeria and the Cal Cego Collection. He is a member of the collective Platform Harakat.
