This lot includes:
(2) "Blue Rose" - First introduced in 1826. Underglazed print from a hand engraved copper plate. Plates has no known damage.
(4) "British Flowers Rosa" - First introduced in 1831. Underglazed print from a hand engraved copper plate. Plates has no known damage, except for one Rosa which has a green marking in center of plate. Could be a misprint.
Plates are all retired and approx 13" across.
In 1987, Spode launched the Archive Collection featuring many of the shapes and transfer decorations in the Cranberry color that they'd produced over the 200 years Spode had been manufacturing dinnerware and fine china. The success of the collection inspired Spode to launch Archive Collections in other colors, including Black, Brown, Green and Lilac.
