Description
A carved wooden female effigy with thick encrusted sacrificial surface patina that sweats in the sunlight, suggesting years of ritual applications or offerings. Such images of female ancestral spirits are not common among the Toma peoples. The figure features an elongated form, slender arms and legs with ringed neck conveying a level of status and prestige. The Idol measures 26.75 inches tall on it's wooden base. Provenance: The Allan Stone Collection, New York.
Condition
Fragile but intact, what remains is stable, light areas of decay.
