1876 Jules Verne Search of Castaways Captain Grant Shipwreck Illustrated Hetzel
“Reality provides us with facts so romantic that imagination itself could add nothing to them.”
― Jules Verne
Jules Vernes adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. Known mostly for his works of science fiction, Voyages Extraordinaires was Vernes largest collection of fantasy novels and stories. The fifth installment in this series was In Search of the Castaways, first published in 1867. This story follows the adventures of Lord and Lady Glenarvan who are in search of Captain Grant and his shipwreck.
This 1876 Hetzel edition was published under the name Children of Captain Grant. The work itself has been published under a variety of titles including In Search of the Castaways.
Note on dating: like many other Verne editions, the title page included was issued in each edition, including later printings. The dating comes from the ads in the back of the book – note the ads in this volume advertise for the releases in the 1876-1877 print year.
