Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose III, ca. 1479 to 1425 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab of ovoid form bearing the cartouche of Pharaoh Thutmose III. While the topside showcases characteristic insectile features, the bottom illustrates the pharaoh as a sphinx trampling over his enemies, the creature surrounded by hieroglyphs; a cartouche reading "Men-Kheper-Re" ("Lasting is the Manifestation of Re") is visible on the righthand side. The scarab is mounted within the form-fitting bezel of a 10K gold tie pin that would accentuate any outfit.
