A hard-to-find doll in impressive large size. This 31" (83cm) doll is incised on the back of the head "R. D." The doll has impressive, huge, bulbous blue paperweight eyes, a closed-mouth with heart-shaped upper lip, delicate shading on the lower edges, tiny eyelashes, very thick multi-stroke eyebrows and pierced earlobes. All mounted to the original fully-jointed French wood and composition body with mostly original finish, some typical flaking of paint on fingers. She is simply but authentically dressed in a white pleated cotton underdress with heavy lace along the bottom, with a thin overdress of sheer white cotton, cut work and lace, with some added color as a drop-waist sash of blue silk with rhinestone adornments. Black leather shoes are well-made, although not as old as the doll. The wig is good quality honey-colored human hair, with bangs and long curls that go to mid-waist and back. With the wig off, the head is slightly warped to the top, perhaps leaning slightly to the right, but with wig and pate in place it is completely unnoticeable. Condition: (Very Good).
