Signed by artist Thomas W. Benton in the bottom margin. Additionally signed by Hunter S. Thompson "HST" in gold ink, along with a golden thumbprint. Nearly a decade before fellow Colorado native son Jello Biafra ran for mayor of San Francisco, Hunter S. Thompson was blazing the way in his run for Pitkin County Sheriff on a platform of "freak power". In Aspen, Colorado, better known for its majestic natural surroundings and less-than majestic American elites, Thompson wrapped himself in the American flag and attempted the Leninist tactic of Ă¢â‚¬Ëœboring from withinĂ¢â‚¬Ëœ. Like the more dour—and sober—revolutionaries of the sixties, Thompson did not succeed. However, he had a hell of a lot more fun and inspired a generation with his Ă¢â‚¬ËœgonzoĂ¢â‚¬Ëœ approach to life, literature and politics.
