Description
A Carved wooden shrine effigy in classic form with well handled surface patina, well handled and worn. Bateba Thil represent forest spirits and are kept on personal and village shrines to act as a medium to the spirit world. Lobi peoples, Burkina Faso, West Africa. The figure has been custom mounted and measures 9.5 inches tall ( 11.5 on stand) Provenance: Robert Banks collection, Maryland, also Ex Private Pennsylvania collection.
