A Tall carved wooden veranda post sculpture featuring a Horse and rider. The figure is carved in a classic style with traditional regalia, the sculpture is weathered and worn showing age and field use. Yoruba peoples, Nigeria, West Africa. The houses of important men often have elaborately carved posts among the Yoruba. Figural posts such as this one stood in an à fin or a palace or shrine. They held up verandas, supported courtyard openings, or served as screens. The sculpture measures 33 inches tall on professional custom display stand. Provenance: The estate of critically acclaimed essayist and novelist Joan Didion (1934-2021) New York.
