19th C. Chinese Lacquered And Gilt Floor Screen, descended in the family of Mrs. Ulysses S. (Julia) Grant, and believed by the family to have been presented to President and Mrs. Grant by the Emperor of China on his 1879 visit during the Grant's world tour after his second term in office. Remained in the family until 2010 and has since only been owned by one other family. The screen is a tri-fold, with landscape scenes in the gilt on black lacquer ground to both sides and with dragon borders. Lacquer is cracking. 63.5 tall, each panel 23.75 wide.
