The horizontal aloeswood boulder carved in the form of rocky mountain landscape scene with huts, pavillion, trees, and Figurines in various activities, the dark brown wood has characteristic inclusions and aroma. Qing Dynasty period.

Agarwood, also known as aloeswood, has been regarded as the king of fragrances since ancient times. It is formed from the resin secreted by the agarwood tree, which is native to subtropical regions. Over the years, the resin accumulates and solidifies, resulting in the formation of agarwood. It is rare and difficult to obtain large pieces of agarwood. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the imperial court and royal families held a great appreciation for various exquisite carvings made of agarwood. Compare the famous agarwood boulder titled 'Nine Elders in Xiang Mountain' carving in the collection of National Palace Museum, Taipei (Image 1). Another similar agarwood carving in the form of a mountain can be referenced from Christie's auction in Hong Kong in November 2012, achieving a final price of HKD 1,940,000 (Image 2).
