Description
Signed lower left, Watercolor on Masonite, 52" x 38", in the original period frame behind glass, Overall measures 62 1/2" x 45". Provenance: Downtown Gallery, NY 1950. Note: David Fredenthal was known for vigorous and complex compositions due to his experience as a WPA muralist. A respected draftsman and skilled artist, he was a Guggenheim Fellow in 1938 and began his relationship with Downtown Gallery in 1937 with his first solo exhibition. He was a War Artist Correspondent and worked for Life magazine during WWII. In 1947 he had an exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
