Individual pieces with the same pattern can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Helena Woolworth McCann Collection, Gift of Winfield Foundation, 1951, 51.86.29a, b) and the Rijksmuseum (J.G.A.N. de Vries Bequest, The Hague, AK-NM-13642), among other prestigious collections.
This subject matter reflects the European interest in India throughout the 18th century and indicates that this service was likely made for the colonial market in British India.
