Description
Native American, Midwest to Southeastern United States, Caddo / Mississippian, ca. 1200 to 1700 CE. An incised Caddo pottery vessel which a globular body, flattened base, and an incised motifs on both sides - these vertical lines appear to interlace or switchback on itself at the center - like a zig zagging lightning bolt or snake. Caddoan pottery was the finest produced by the Mississippian culture, with very thin walls, intricate motifs, and well-proportioned shapes. These ceramics are largely considered the apex of the art of the Southeast. Size: 6" Diameter x 8.5" H (15.2 cm x 21.6 cm)
