Description
Handel Reverse Painted Lamp, The Handel Company, Meriden, Connecticut, Early Twentieth Century. The shade design 6688, reverse painted with butterflies hovering amidst flowers in shades of pink, red and green, signed "HANDEL 6688" at the rim edge, the exterior shade ring signed "HANDEL Lamps" and "PAT'D NO/ 970664," the gold-patinated lyre base with three Hubbell sockets, cluster ball, heat cap and finial. Literature: This lamp is illustrated on the cover and on p. 113 in Carole Goldman Hibel, John Hibel and John Fontaine, "The Handel Lamps Book," and versions of the shade and base, as well as an advertisement from "Century," May 1919, are illustrated on pp. 112-113. Shade: H: 7.75 in., Diam: 17.75 in. Base (to top of shade ring): H: 23 in., Diam: 7 in.
