Description
Pair of American Bronze 'Indian Head' Bookends, Attributed to the Sculptor West, Circa 1915; and a Pair of Patinated-Metal Potato Bookends, 1939. The first pair in golden brown patina, unsigned; one of the second pair engraved on the base "1939 WINNER HIGH YIELD CONTEST PRESENTED BY BRISTOL COUNTY FARM BUREAU." First pair: H: 5.375 in., W: 7.125 in., D: 2.375 in. Second pair: H: 5.25 in., W: 4.25 in., D: 3.5 in. Literature: An identical pair of bronze 'Indian Head' bookends, marked West, are illustrated in Louis Kuritzky and Charles De Costa, "Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends," p. 278, pl. 1935.
