Description
English Officer's Sword for the American Market, First Quarter Nineteenth Century. The blade with broad fuller and hatchet tip, with a 14.5 inch blued and gilt panel engraved on one side with the Great Seal of the United States and motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and on the other with a military trophy, each side with a leaf and foliate cartouches, the grip wrapped in brass wire and with a horse head pommel, the mane extending the entire length of the backstrap, iron knucklebow and quillon etched on one side with a flowerhead, and with pair of languets on either side of the guard, one languet cast with an acron and oak leaves; steel scabbard with two carrying rings. Size in sheath: H: 40.625 in., W: 6.75 in., D: 1.125 in. Blade: H: 33 in.
