Frame: H: 25.125 in., W: 31.125 in., D: .75 in.The American Collins Line (formally called the New York and Liverpool United States Mail Steamship Company) was a serious competitor of (on the transatlantic routes) the British Cunard shipping company. Well-appointed with new innovations, large and fast, the 2,850-ton "Arctic," along with the "Atlantic," Pacific" and "Baltic," formed the core of the Collins Line fleet and were superior to those of the Cunard Line in many ways. When the Collins Line lost the SS "Pacific" sixteen months after the "Arctic," Congress cut the company's subsidy for carrying mail by more than half. Without the full subsidy, the Line folded.
