34-Star Parade Flag Identified to Asst. Quartermaster William M. Woods
Printed cotton parade flag, canton design, and provenance suggesting 34 stars. 15 1/2 x 11 in. Provenance: Captain William M. Woods (1824-1870), Baltimore, MD, by descent to his granddaughter Mrs. Robert Lee, Sykesville, MD, to Robert B. Morris. Related by a typed note signed by Robert Morris.
William M. Woods enlisted on 18 May 1864 as a captain and was commissioned on the same day into the US Volunteers Quartermaster’s Department, mustering out at the conclusion of the war on 8 November 1865.
A wonderful patriotic display piece.
