Description
John Wayne’s personal silver cigarette case inscribed Best Wishes Duke on the outside of the case. There is also a letter that goes with the case explaining how this became Wayne’s cigarette case. The letter is signed by Marilu Holmes whose first husband, Tracy, was a huge John Wayne fan. Marilu worked with Pat Compton who was married to Bob Morrison who was John Wayne’s brother. One Christmas, Pat gave John Wayne this case for a present. Bob Morrison died of cancer and Pat remarried. When John Wayne died, the family gave the cigarette case back to Pat Compton. Pat gave the case to Tracy as a surprise. When Tracy died, Marilu inherited the case and eventually sold it. There is also a book included, “Bedpan Jungle”. This book was given to Bob Morrison (John’s Brother) when he was in the hospital dying of cancer. It is signed by some of Bob’s friends. Like his brother, Bob was a big smoker. He could never quit the habit. As he lay dying in the hospital, he would smoke cigarettes. This infuriated John, who would visit him often. The case is tarnished and the inscription is somewhat hard to see, but this is an amazing piece of history. The case measures 6.5” L, 3.5” W and 1.75” H.
