Sir Peyton Ventris (1645 – 1691) entered the Middle Temple in 1664 and was called to the bar in 1671.
He rose to prominence after the Revolution of 1688, becoming serjeant-at-law, justice of the Court of Common Pleas, and rising to a knighthood in 1689.
Ventris' compilation of reports, covering cases from 1668-1691, has "generally been considered to be of good authority" with "but few of the cases censured."
They "endure as among the most important written during the Restoration."
