Clementine Hunter
(1886 -1988) Clementine Hunter was an African-American, self-taught artist from the Cane River region of Louisiana. She was born on a plantation that she said was the inspiration for Uncle Tom's Cabin where she worked as a field worker, never learning to read or write. In her 50's, she began to paint, using brushes and paints left behind by an artist who visited the Melrose plantation, where she lived and worked. Hunter's work depicted plantation life in the early 20th century.The word "In the style of" is used for a work by an unknown creator who has created a copy of a known work by that artist.
