Pair of Large French Copper-Washed-Bronze Torchere Stands
pre-1878, in the Neo-Grec taste, the circular tops supported by sphinxes resting on fluted and leaf-molded standards, above pierced bases with molded anthemia and paw feet, one base marked "J. J. Ducel et Fils".

Notes: J. J. Ducell (1801-1878) was a prominent Parisian iron and bronze casting firm. One of their catalogues is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York.
