Description
Two upholstered French carved and gilded arm chairs, probably mid 19th century. The first, a large parlor chair with a profusely carved crest decorated with a cherub and acanthus scrolls - the arms scroll at the front terminal also with acanthus decorations - the shaped seat apron with conforming acanthus carvings that leads to cabriole legs with scrolled feet. The rear legs and feet, match the front - the wooden chair frame is in good original condition - the gilding appear to be original - the upholstery is newer with a few slight stains - one front wheel is loose from chair, but overall the chair is in very good condition - it measures 39"W x 29 1/2"D x 48 1/2"H x 19" seat height. The second chair with a near straight back and carved crest decorated with leaves and flowers, has arms with stepped molded edges supported by turned and fluted columns - the front cabriole legs are carved with scrolls and acanthus decorations and lead to scrolled feet which have cross stretchers - there is a very old repair to left front foot, some surface abrasions to the second gilding, and the newer upholstery with small stain, else the chair is in good condition - it measures 25 3/4"W x 26"D x 43 3/4"H x 18 1/2" seat height.
