Three pieces of unframed original abstract expressionist artwork including: John Grillo 1917 - 2014 Massachusetts - pen & ink sketch of lady signed Grillo 29 / 66; another abstract in pen and ink - some running of ink- illegible signature (see photo of signature); and the other abstract in watercolor, signed and dated '65 - illegible signature (see photo of signature). All are in good condition. The largest, the multicolored abstract piece, measures with mat 26 1/2" x 20 1/4" - sheet size measures 14 1/2" x 21 1/2". PROVENANCE: Only one is Grillo which is clearly signed. It was given as a gift to Margo Stewart and came through the estate of her son Brandon Stewart. Margot was self-taught amateur artist who was married to the abstract Expressionist artist, Jack Stewart. Margo and Jack lived in a townhouse on E. 61st St. and were part of the art scene around E. 57th St. For a time she worked at Charles Egan Gallery on E. 57th St. She and her husband were part of the art scene around that area. During the 40s and 50s she was a patron of artists such as Dekooning, Francis Klein, Joseph Cornell, Mark Rothko, and other artists of the New York school. She spent time in East Hampton, and was influenced By artists of the East End Arts community. Many of her works were gifts from the artists.
