Description
This lot features a "Lost Wax" Bronze Sculpture of a Texas Longhorn Bull, mounted on a black marble base. The lost wax casting method is the most precise metal casting technique in existence, ensuring accurate reproductions of the original sculpture and exquisite detail. The oldest known examples of this technique are approximately 6,500-year-old (4550–4450 BC). Even though modern methods and materials have improved the technique, it is still an extremely labor intensive and expensive process. The Texas Longhorn is an American breed of beef cattle, characterized by its long horns which can span more than 8 ft from tip to tip. It derives from cattle brought from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas by Spanish conquistadors from the time of the Second Voyage of Christopher Columbus until about 1512. Nicely detailed, this longhorn bull is perfectly sized for an executive desk or shelf, large enough to make a statement. A deep rich patina is exhibited throughout the bronze, minor scratches noted on the marble base. No other obvious marring noted. Measures 22"L x 13"W x 15"H approximately.*
