Description
The lot features a beaded belt from the Plains Indians with a pictorial and word beadwork dating to the early-to-mid-1900's. The belt has a leather and metal buckle / end sewn onto a trade canvas body covered in Czechoslovakian cut and Venetian seed beads. The beads show petit Cheyenne pink, chalk white, greasy blue, petit greasy yellow, greasy butterscotch yellow, light blue, cobalt and cut beads in red, semi-clear white, and black. The belt shows some wear and bead loss. Across the field shows the names "EDWARD ALEXIE DESMET IDA" with pictorial figures of five-point stars and hearts. Measures overall 39.25"L end to end by 1.5"W. Buckle is 1 7/8" by 1.25".
