He became Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces during WWII, a permanent 5 star General, Commanded forces of the Normandy invasion, etc. Before he ran for US President he was inaugurated as President of Columbia University in NYC June 7, 1948. Amongst his achievements as president were armistice to Korean War; dealt with crises in Lebanon, Suez, Berlin, and Hungary; established the U.S. Information Agency; oversaw Alaska and Hawaii become the 49th and 50th states; signed the 1957 Civil Rights Act, the first civil rights legislation since end of Civil War; sent federal troops to enforce court-ordered integration of Little Rock Central High School.
