Oceania, Papua New Guinea, East Sepik River region, Kararau, Iatmul, ca, early to early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wood figure with cowrie shell eyes and painted with white and reddish hues. Such carvings were often made to honor the deceased and/ or embody the spirits of ancestors. Size: 6" Diameter x 14.25" H (15.2 cm x 36.2 cm)
