Description
Framed Navajo Sand Painting. Is not signed, but it is very similar to the style by artist Gladys Ben. This framed sandpainting is approx 27 1/2" x 1" x 27" and it weighs 8.5lbs. The sand painting itself is approx 17" x 17 1/2". The framed sand painting is in a good, vintage condition with some chips on the frame. Please see the images as they are part of the description. Please note, that the wire and other hanging parts are not attached to the frame but included in a small bag.
Navajo Sandpaintings, also called dry paintings, are called "places where the gods come and go" in the Navajo language. They are used in curing ceremonies in which the gods' help is requested for harvests and healing. The figures in sand paintings are symbolic representations of a story in Navajo mythology.
