Description
Qing dynasty (1644–1911), Kangxi period (1662–1722) Six-Panel Screen, ink and watercolor on paper, on a later mount, signed with two characters lower left of left hand panel, depicting a dramatic mountain lake scene, probably the dramatic karst mountains of Guangxhi in the south. Approximately thirty figures are scattered throughout the narrative, a large pagoda and the adjoining grounds, in small groups of merchants, scholars, priests, musicians and children. Two boats have tied up at the dock, selling books and liquor, attracting a small crowd. Merchants carrying goods on poles approach, three sailboats in the lake. Gold flecks in the sky. The full size, laid flat, is 55 1/2" x 142" (11' 10"). Most paper hinged have separated, some edge loss and tears, print block paper reverse. Multiple old repairs.
