Description
1833 INDIANS 1ed Congress Report on Attacks Sac & Fox Nation Cherokee America
In the first session of the 1833, 23rd United States Congress, one of the topics of debate was dealing with the claims made by US citizens against Native American Indian depredation (i.e. unwarranted attacks and pillaging). This report includes the lists of claimants and thorough descriptions of their claims and losses. Interestingly, many of the claims found in this report deal with attacks from the Sac and Fox Nation tribes.
This 1833 report from the House of Representatives includes numerous other shorter reports from 1834 including an interest petition from Alfred Stewart which petitioned for five negroes who were taken by a group of armed, hostile Cherokee Indians to be given appropriate compensation for their suffering.
