Branko Paradis, American oil painter, was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1942,low, without mercy, during WW2. Childhood had to coexist along fierce hunger and rule of Communism.By age eleven, or so, Paradis had already begun making his pictures. He discovered he was able to trade his share of family food for colors and pencils, or whatever they had to help him with making his pictures. A firm knowing within, had already decided that this was how he wanted to spend all his time and days, one after another—making pictures. The boy artist did this work every day. This was to become the work for his life. He never studied art, and was never introduced to historical precepts of modern art.
