Description
A large Chinese grisaille-decorated 'figural' vase, the globular body skillfully painted with a fictional scene, depicting a figure bowing to a seated official figure surrounded by additional nine figures in an outdoor setting, one side with an inscription echoing the painted scene, dated 'renshen', corresponding to 1932, with three painted seals, the slightly waisted long neck decorated with geometric bands, ruyi-heads, and stylized lappets above key-fret patterns and a ruyi collar on the shoulder of the vase, the rim and some of the painted details highlighted in gilt, the recessed base bearing an apocryphal 'Kangxi yu zhi' mark (openings and imperfections in white glaze, surface wear particularly in the area with inscription), 22.25" high.
