His paint acts as a language and each painting becomes a word, continually constructing a vocabulary conveying a vast dream-scape that becomes clearer in each new work. Masteller finds power in his process. The fluid and solid quality of the paint, the act of brushing, scratching, wiping away, and layering bold colors inspire the physical interplay between the canvas and himself. To Masteller, viewing a painting is an act of both seeing and not seeing. The closer you get to the surface the more the picture fades away and the focus is just about paint. The brush marks, cracks, and blemishes re what draws the eye.
