Tien-Tung Hsu （许殿栋）：Likow Simon Chang’ father. graduated from the Military Academy of Republic of China in Chengdu in 1941. He went to Taiwan in 1949 and was stationed at Kaohsiung until he retired. The portrait photo of Mr. Hsu is from the yearbook of the Military Academy of the Republic of China. All letters are sent from Taiwan to the U.S in the 1970s.Likow Simon Chang (張立國) was born on February 7, 1953, in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from National Taiwan University in 1974. He was a second Lieutenant in the Chinese Army from 1974-1976. He then came to the U.S. and received his master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1978. He was National Science Foundation Graduate Research Associate at Ohio State University from 1978-1982. He graduated from Ohio State University with a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering. He became a professor, and then worked with GTE, and later with the Department of Defense. He retired from the Department of Defense in 2009. He passed away on October 21, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Justine; and his beloved dog, Sunshine. He deeply enjoyed traveling, trekking to more than 50 countries. He loved history, stamps collecting and college football. We have more than 300 letters between Dr. Chang and his father, sisters, and his friends after he came to the U.S. All the letters reflect his real life in the U.S. Dr. Chang’s mother passed away in his childhood. He follows his mom’s family name.
