DAVID HOCKNEY (1937 - )
Reproduction of his Menu for Dinner in Honor of Henry Geldzahler Signed, with his holograph London address and phone, on verso. Below Hockney's address is the New York address and phone of Ahmet Ertegun and his wife, in Ertegun's hand. 195x135mm; 7¾x5¼ inches; faint staining at upper corners verso (touching few letters of Hockney signature). Np, circa 1978. This menu and others like it may have been distributed to guests of a February 2, 1978, dinner held in celebration Geldzahler's career as a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which began in 1960 and which ended on February 1, 1978; Geldzahler had been appointed Commissioner of Cultural Affairs for the City of New York in January. The original artwork from which the present lot was created is part of the MET's permanent collection (Accession Number: 2008.470).
