Description
Teak Bench. Japanese Circa 1880-1900 with high arched back carved with high relief three toed dragon in clouds at crest with three relief carved panels, central panel with two fighting dragons, flanked by phoenix birds in flight among scrolled floral branches, scrolled arms are carved dragons with head as terminals and tails at top of back, supported by carved and pierced flora scroll work, lift seat with four circular Chinese inscriptions and geometric carved front edge, with storage below; base with cabriole legs/corner stiles carved with bat winged Chimera with floral scroll relief carved apron and storage box walls with intaglio panels. 63 1/2w x 25d x 52 3/4h. SH; 16 1/2.
Condition
Very good, considering age. Left panel has age crack and arms have separation at seams. Two age cracks in open work under arm supports.
