A Louis XVI brass-mounted mahogany secretaire a abattant (French secretary), the rectangular grey marble top above one frieze drawer and a fall front door opening to form a leather-lined writing surface and to reveal an arrangement of drawers and shelves, above three long drawers raised on toupie feet.The whole with brass borders and star-inlaid panels. Last quarter 18th century. Provenance: Sotheby Parke Bernet, New York ( Sale Number 3588), Sale December 15, 1973, Lot 169. From the estate of Gloria Vanderbilt.
