POLO PLAYOFF PAYOFF
by Andy Jurinko
It's October 3, 1951 ,and Bobby Thomson of the Giants has just ripped into a Ralph Branca pitch in the deci-
sive third game of the National League playoff at Manhattan 's Polo Grounds. Thomson's "shot heard
'round the world" is headed toward the left field seats for a dramatic, three-run, ninth-inning homer as the
Giants roar from behind to earn a World Series berth against the Yankees. Your vantage point in the upper
deck between home plate and first base begins with Thomson, sweeps across left field and ends in deep
right center. You barely
