Description
This coin, the first commemorative half dollar issued since 1954, commemorated the 250th anniversary of the birth of George Washington. It marked the beginning of the modern commemorative era. It was also the first 90% silver coin produced b y the U. S. Mint since 1964. Designed by Elizabeth Jones, the obverse features George Washington astride a horse. The reverse depicts the eastern facade of Mount Vernon. Uncirculated version struck at Denver, the proof at San Francisco. This lot contains 29 uncirculated and 28 proof, in the original mint boxes. Each coin has 0.36169 oz. of silver for a total silver content of 20.6 ounces. 1982
