Description
**First Time At Auction**
Western Europe, France / England, Victorian era, ca. 19th century CE. A pair of fancy vanity tools - a nail buffer and file carved from elephant ivory with an iron file tip with a sterling neck cap, and a leather buffing surface, the handles are carved into the bust of a man and woman clown / circus performers. The size and detail to the carvings indicate this luxury beauty set was probably left out on the vanity tabletop as decoration when they were not used for manicures. Ivory was popular up until the Edwardian era when other materials that imitated ivory were widely available- the cross hatching on the surface of these is indicative of elephant ivory. Size: 8.5" L x 1.75" W (21.6 cm x 4.4 cm); silver quality: 94%
This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.
