Christy Mathewson (August 12, 1880 -October 7, 1925) was the first great pitching star of the modern era, and is still the standard by which greatness is measured. "Won in the Ninth" is a story about a college baseball team in the early 20th century. Mathewson published "Won in the Ninth" in 1910 and was lauded for his thrilling descriptions of games and the recognizable styles of many of the team's players. At the end of the story, he includes a guide to his dangerous "fade away" pitch known today as a screwball. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity.
